Solo Sailing - ONE SAILOR vs NATURE

My passion for solo sailing comes from a night in the Caribbean Sea, with just myself on deck at midnight, full moon, a casual 15-18 knots from behind and cruising to Aruba. In the glimmer of the moonlight I saw a splash, then another and before I knew it there were 100+ dolphins playing with the boat. Not just jumping and riding the pressure wave off the bow, but leaping high into the air in acrobatic displays that still live with me today.

It was man vs nature and on that night I won.

Solo Sailing has been around for many years and the heroes and stories could go on forever but in the heart of every sailor is a desire to have that perfect day of sailing. For some it goes further. They need achievements, results or maybe they just set themselves a goal.

Some people need to win to achieve there goals but in solo sailing, finishing makes you a winner. You have beaten mother nature.

As most addicted sailors, I come home after a hard time racing, saying "I'll never do it again", the next day you are saying "It was alright, but hard" By the next day you can't wait to get back out there for your next mission, your next achievement, your next victory.

On the left you will find links to solo races that happen around our world. Those who compete in these events are sure to have stories to tell.

For those sailors out there interested in going solo, give it a go, the rewards are awesome!
